The various life forms we are in charge of continue to get older. Would you like to hear some stories?
Nagano and Gizmo are starting to get along better, though Nagano still gets hissy whenever Giz gets too close. 'Too close' is becoming a smaller and smaller distance, though. Gizmo had a busy day when we let him out of his room and into the house at large. He spent a full day just walking from room to room and smelling things, looking at stuff, and slowly memorizing the layout of our house. We took him in for a doctor checkup today, and he's doing just fine, but we are going to have to get them a stool sample at some point, something I'm not really looking forward to. Though considering how much time I spend managing poop in this house, it's not really much of an issue.
Tyler is getting a couple of new teeth. The bottom ones #3 and #4 are coming in. One has broken through and the other is on it's way. I'm sure you've seen the videos of him almost walking (and if you haven't, I have someone on facebook that you should be friends with) but little else has happened on that front. His walks are still pretty 'staggering' and he spends most of his time crawling for distance or using his walker. We are getting closer and closer to his birthday, and I'm most excited about watching him mash cupcake all over his face.
Next week is South By Southwest, (SXSW), at least, the music component is next week. That's the part most people think about. The less well known but still fun 'movie' and 'interactive' (read: video games) parts are happening as we speak. I'm planning to hit up the Screen Burn Arcade this weekend to hopefully check out some games pre-release. Should be fun.
Not much else to tell, but hopefully this will tide you over for a time until I do something more interesting.

I also want to talk about Cats
So as I glossed over before, we had to put Tigger down last week. He was starting to show signs of getting worse again, and we wanted to end it on a high note for him, as opposed to waiting until he was too miserable to be a happy cat. It was very sad, but he just slipped away without much trauma, which is much, much better than what would have happened if we had just let him die of natural causes. So we know we did the right thing for all involved, but I still had to have a good cry on Jessies lap when we got home.
Nagano seems to miss his roommate. He’s much cuddlier than he has been in the past, wanting always to be around us and getting a lot of attention. Which is nice for us, but I think he misses having someone around during the day, so we’ve been thinking about getting another cat.
This, because we are responsible people, means the pound or, because it’s closer, a non-profit humane society that we went by yesterday. They actually have a pretty neat setup, where there a lot of cats in cages, as you would expect, but they also have cat rooms, where they keep the cats that get along with other cats well. And the rooms have scratching posts and litter boxes and all sorts of toys. And you can just wander in and start looking at cats.
I met a few of the contenders, all of whom were really nice. Except for the ones that were asleep, because they were too busy being sleepy to want to visit. There were several that I would have taken home in an instant, but we decided we didn’t want to decide right then, so we just went across the street to the Red Lobster for dinner with Tyler (he had some of my broccoli) and talked about cats. There was on there that I seriously was considering taking home with us, and it begs the question, what should we be waiting for? Maybe, at least, for a weekend when we can spend more time with the cat in his new home. Do I think they might have better cats next time we go back? What would a better cat even look like?
Anyway, I’m thinking about this really sweet little black cat we met there yesterday. If she’s not there when we go back it’s because someone else thought she was a sweetie, too.
Man…cats, right?

Exercisey!
So I still haven’t gotten on any Martial Art-based exercise program, but don’t think that means I’m idle. I’ve been doing some outdoor running and some indoor aerobics to get my heart rate up a few times a week. Running is *so much easier* now that I weigh less. I’ve noticed a few other changes, too. It’s easier for me to move around, and yesterday I went from laying on my stomach to standing up by walking my hands back toward my feet. And this time I got all the way up. I haven’t been able to do that before. Also, my wedding ring is dangerously close to falling off. I’m thinking about getting another one a half-size smaller. Maybe tungsten or titanium this time. Current low weight: 206 pounds. Leveling off, but still room to grow. Or shrink, I guess.
My latest exercise escapade has been ‘barefoot running’. Which I’m actually not doing barefoot. I have some old waders which offer excellent ‘pebble and asphalt’ protection, without offering a lot of foot support, which is the idea. It forces you to run on your toes, which is a serious calf workout, let me tell you. But the idea is that running shoes ‘allow’ you to run on your heels, stomping down with enough protection that it doesn’t hurt to run that way. But unfortunately, that means that all the impact is either absorbed by your shoes or by your *knees*. A little rough, in the long term. Barefoot running means you land on the balls of your feet. Any other running method will feel really weird. That means you have a much longer impact time and much more impact is absorbed by your feet and calves. It’s definitely a different mode of running. We’ll see how it works out.
I eventually want to get back into some form of ‘exercise inspiration’, whether martial arts-based or otherwise. I never exercised until I had some reason to, and that used to be Tae Kwon Do or some other martial art. I do it now for the health, and because I get really tired if I don’t, but it’s nice to have something else to work for. I’m actually considering taking drum lessons. I know that every time I sit down at my (electronic) drums for more than a few minutes, I work up a serious sweat. Could be something else neat to try.
Speaking of music, I’ve started doing that, as well, though in a decidedly roundabout way. I’ve actually gone back to my old music theory textbooks, which are great because they offer *tons* of examples and exercises to work through, and I’m re-learning everything again, from simple part-writing and chord selection all the way through writing simple Piano music. I’m hoping to start with some simple melodies and chords, written properly, and then get into the strange synthesizers and filters of the rest of my ‘studio’. We’ll see how it goes. If I make anything that sounds good, I’ll put it up here.
And on a final note, I’m sitting on the couch, and Tigger is laying next to me. Nagano is laying on the back of the couch above my head. They’re both asleep. Very cute.

Intermission: Update
Right,
So I'm about to get down to the business of blogging about the honeymoon, much like I did for the Japan trip, but I wanted to do a quick update about us before diving back into the past again.
We've been home and married for about two weeks, and we've flipped over from being contract-to-hire employees to actual employees. Our salary...did something, I can't quite remember which direction it went, but our benefits for being properly employed are spectacular. Bonuses and 401k stuff and everything. They even pay for our health club membership. How nice!
Nagano continues to grow. He was a BIG kitten when we came back from Costa Rica, and he continues to grow in tiny little steps. Being older has calmed him down, too. I'd post pictures, but it's a big process to get stuff on here and then posted, so I'll do that later.
Tigger had a rough day yesterday. We took him into the vet a few months ago and the recommended bringing him in for a teeth cleaning. It's a pretty serious thing where they put him under and get at his teeth. In Tigger's case, they actually pulled 6 of his teeth because they were too rotten. We were worried for him, but he seems to be doing just fine. We have some antibiotics and mouth-morphine to give him for a few weeks and days, respectively, and he ate hard food right when he came back, so that's good. He seems to be in pretty high spirits, but that might just be the drugs talking. He was very affectionate, as soon as we picked him up from the vet, we had to reach in and clean out his carrier some, and he was nuzzling Jessie all over when she put her hand in. The vets say that pets seem to really like having bad teeth out, because it hurts less. It certainly seems to have put Tigger in a good mood.
Also, we're going house hunting! We went to a couple of 'open houses of opportunity' last week, and weren't terribly impressed with what we saw. We've seen some better houses, though, and talked with our real estate guy who will be showing us eight of them tomorrow. So that'll be fun. We'll bring the camera, any experienced house-shoppers want to warn us of what to look for?
Video games! Tis the season where all the big stuff comes out in preparation for the holiday shopping season. I'm currently playing Little Big Planet, ahead of schedule, he he, and Rock Band 2 with Jessie. We make a pretty great band together. It's called 'Doomsday Not Included'. We took that one from the 'random band name generator' in the game, which is awesome.
Right, let's talk Costa Rica...

New Kitten Movie!
Well I've gotten enough requests for one, so here it is, another movie featuring my adorable kitten.
This one is on Youtube, which seems to be about the same as Google video, just a little easier to upload to. Let me know what you think.

Worn down
What a weekend. It started Saturday morning. When I went to sleep in the guest bedroom, Nagano was in there with me. When I woke up, Jess and Tigger were in there, and Jess was trying to feed Tigger some Hot dog.
It turned out that Tigger had hurt himself somehow. We suspect by jumping off the top of the cat condo while being a fat kitty. His back legs were giving him grief. He didn't even want any food. Now that's a sore Tigger. He got better pretty quickly, though, but we've been keeping him and Nagano separated all the time for a while. I don't think Tigger's in the mood for any shenannegans.
After helping him settle in, we went out to watch WANTED with Tabi and Jeff, who are taking care of our cats for us over the 4th of july weekend while we're in Florida. I really liked it. Lots of very creative, very silly action. Way fun.
[;'=[]o009. Nagano typed that.
After that we came back home and picked up the first few round of response cards sent back from invitations. It's pretty fun to open those things up, even if we mostly have 'no's.'
Today, Sunday, we woke up and went off to do some morning swimming. Arobics are supposed to be better for you on an empty stomach, but doing 2200 meters in the pool before breakfast makes me tired.
After that we went to the mall where we did some looking around and got the Tuxedoes set up for everyone. I'll send out e-mails for that later to the effected parties.
Then we came home and OH MAN I WAS SO TIRED I FELL ASLEEP. Untill Nagano and Tigger started harrying each other under the door. Keeping the two of them apart is almost as much work as keeping them civil when they're together.
Nagano went to the vet this week, too. In three weeks, he gets his last vaccinations and a little bit of 'elective surgery'.
Love and naps.

Slowly becoming a Texan
So we're nearly official. Yesterday we went out to the Austin County Tax Assesor's office and got my car registered. We got there a bit early, which was great, because there was very little wait for us. We paid our fees and presto, I have Texas plates. Next, we have to to go the Texas Department of Safety to get our Drivers Licenses. Oddly enough, we're getting ourselves entirely registered without ever actually going to the DMV. Weird.
Also, Nagano had visit #2 to the vet yesterday. He checked out okay, free of stomach bugs, and got part two of his innoculations. At his next visit, we think he'll get neutered. Hopefully it'll calm him down a little without ridding him of that feline personality we've become so attached to. He's so cute.

Feline Condominium
It's been a relatively lazy weekend. We went out to the library, slept in a bit, and, obviously, made you guys a new movie. Enjoy,

Nagano is Healthy, mostly
We took Nagano to his first Vet visit yesterday. It all went pretty well, overall. He really didn't like being kept inside the carrier, but all he did was meow in an incredibly adorable fashion. We let him out when we got into the exam room but kept him from going too crazy by distracting him with business cards and other things for him to paw at.
He got the normal exam and didn't really like it much, of course, but was a pretty good cat about it for the most part. He tested negative for FEV and Feline Lukemia (yay!) but he does have a little intestinal parasite. Some single-celled thing. We just have to give him medicine for the next 10 days and bring in Tigger to make sure he doesn't have it. We could probably get away with not bringing Ttigger in, but it'd be nice to get him back to the vet again. He can be a serious pain, but the vet clinic assures us they're used to problem cats, and since all they do is cat medecine, I tend to believe them.
We also got Nagano his first shots, and he's been feeling a little down ever since we got back. Of course, for Nagano, 'a little down' means 'not spastically pawing at everything in the house that moves'. So he's doing okay.
Yes, yes, I'll try and get some more footage of the kittens this weekend, but Jess and I are trying to get ourselves into a schedule, especially now that we have to keep an eye on cats so much.
Loves,

So much entertainment
Hello,
Nagano and Tigger continue to 'sorta' get along. Occasionally they'll just hang out and be lazy cats next to each other, but usually Nagano wants to pounce on something, so Jess and I spend a lot of time entertaining him so he won't torment Tigger too much. He's still totally adorable.
Jess has also discovered that NetFlix has Heroes online, so we can watch it whenever we want. We started on saturday, and are rapidly coming up to the season finale as we speak. Good show.

New member of the family.
Jess and I were taking a walk outside Ticom today when one of the guys that works there comes outside carrying a kitten. Jessie saw it and thought it was just the cutest thing in the world.
Long story short, we have a kitten now.

Meet Nagano. (Named after Makoto Nagano of Ninja Warrior fame.)
We're keeping him in the bedroom for a bit to let him and Tigger get used to each other slowly. They're pawing at each other under the door now. Hopefully they'll get along.
