Harry Potter movie

This weekend Jane celebrated her **th birtday with a dinner party at our house with a select group of women friends. Because I'd spent the day helping with preparations, but was not expected to hang around, I head off to see the Harry Potter movie at our neighborhood theater. (Jane's not a huge fan.)

I can report that the movie was great, possibly the best since the first one captured the whole world of Hogwarts on film for the first time. I am amazed at how well the actors have grown into their roles. It may be that I now think of those characters as the people in the movie, but I don't think that's quite true. Hermione is a lot nerdier (in my mind) than Emma Watson for example, but I forgive Emma because she is so charming. Ron and Harry seem spot on, and Ginny is exactly who she needs to be to be the warrior I expect her to be in the next movie.

Speaking of which . . . there's one book left, but I'm told the cast is busy making the last *two* movies? Is that right? Or am I reading out-of-date People magazines at the dentist again. (I heard Michael Jackson's health is really bad).

Anyway, I'm now re-reading the only HP I have only read once . . the last one, to get ready for the next movie.

First of all, it has been pointed out to me that as someone who been married 35 years, you don't get that way by blogging your wife's birthday to the world: the event, yes, the count, no....

On to all things Potter. First of all, since your homepage is apparently not "Mugglenet", you are out of step with the rest of the world's awareness of 2-part Movie 7 and have not joined in the passionate discussion about where to split the book (we clearly favor the return of Ron and the sword in the pond).

I have found that my memory of the first few books has been supplanted and altered by the movies which I have seen more often and more recently. When I went back to listen to them on my new birthday I-pod, I reheard and remembered many evolving plot points. That was nice. But rereading 6 before the movie put too much story back in my memory and made an excellent movie seem truncated to some degree. Apparently they recognize that 7 just has too much to squeeze into 150 minutes and the market will clearly tolerate a 2-parter if its done well. Of course, that's a good way to secure another half-billion in Domestic ticket sales. I agree that the actors save Emily are well cast. She was supposed to be bushy-haired and a bit buck-toothed in book one, not the button-cute heartbreaker that she is. It is something of a family embarrassment that I continue to re-read and re-listen to the series for the past 2 years but it just speaks to me in ways I can't explain. I do wonder if the actors will ever get out of these lifetime roles.

good point . . see edited version above.

"button-cute heartbreaker" . . . sheesh, do I do eye surgery in my spare time??

So fabulous wordsmithing is just a bonus you offer? Sigh . . . :)
