Jess and I just got back from Wing Tsun (remember when she used to be J(5)?) and that class is a lot of fun, let me tell you. We've started learning some exercises we can do around the house. Some alone, and some with each other.
I'm definitely enjoying the sense of re-learning and slowly uncovering all the hidden depths that you start to see when you learn a martial art. That sense that you've started swimming and you can just feel the water below you getting deeper and deeper. Learning that depth is one of my favorite things about martial arts. And the fact that Wing Tsun is making me want to exercise my arms to get better is an indication of how much I like it.
In other exercising news, Jess and I have joined a 24 hour fitness gym near our house. It's pretty big, and it's got a smallish, but long enough, pool where we've been going swiming at lunch. It's good to get back into that daily fitness routine, it's good for my overall health and keeps me awake during the day.
It's also got a heck of a lot of different ways to exercise, so if we ever feel like hitting up the weight machines or dumbells or joining a Yoga class, we can just walk right in. The freedom is a nice touch.
Fitfully yours,
-N

So, you come home and practice fighting and throwing each other around?? This is a good thing? Am I missing something real modern here?? Love Dad
Well we're not *actively* trying to DESTROY each other yet. Mostly it's just reminding each other to go over the form a time or two to remember it and occasionally doing some drills to keep the movements in our head. I'm sure we'll graduate to 'surprise ninja attack in the laundry room', but not for a while yet.

24 hours of fitness? Wow. Matt has a real philosophical problem with gyms (yes- I would rather be hiking too- but where are we going to find a trail at 8 pm on a Wednesday night?), but owning an exercise bike has gotten him warmed up to the idea of fitness indoors/ in the face of an otherwise sedentary lifestyle. I've found watching Ninja Warrior of the Unbeatable Banzuke to be good motivators while spinning.

I've fallen in love with eliptical machines and if the metrics are to be believed (and I'm not yet convinced they are) it's a heck of a workout. Mostly we just want to swim, and the gym is the best place for us to do it. It's not much more expensive than public pools (sometimes) given how often we swim, and the rest of the gym is just gravy.
Also, on a side note, Jess has a crush on Makoto Nagano.

Makoto Nagano? Well duh- who doesn't? He has a wikipedia page...
